Becoming a mom for the first time or bringing an additional child (or children!) into the family can mean exciting and joyful changes, but the experience can also trigger other not-so-pleasant feelings. While a morning run, a good night’s sleep and help from family or friends are important, they are sometimes not enough.
Speaking with a therapist who specializes in dealing with motherhood-specific issues can be comforting and even necessary for coping with the many challenges a new mom faces. As a mother of four, including twins, my practice includes both a clinical and practical understanding of those challenges.
I am here to help with any of the following feelings and situations:
- Feelings of being overwhelmed or unprepared
- Guilt over being unable to meet everyone’s needs
- A diminished sense of self
- Trouble sleeping, relaxing, or quieting your mind
- A lack of focus or ability to concentrate on a task
- Fear of asking for help
- Thoughts of needing to “get away”
- Constant worry or anxiety
